Child-Parent Swimming

Children participate with a parent or another adult. Using stories and games as learning tools, the parents help the child learn basic water skills. Each 30 minute lesson takes place either in the children's pool or the therapy pool, depending on the class.

Starting level requirements

This group is designed for children aged 3 years and older who are not yet ready to start swimming lessons independently without a parent present. The Parent & Child Swimming School is an excellent next step after a family swimming group, helping children gradually build the confidence and skills needed to participate in swimming lessons on their own.

Objectives

Children attend the Parent & Child Swimming School together with a parent, guardian, or another accompanying adult. During the lessons, children develop their aquatic skills with the support of the accompanying adult through stories, play, and age-appropriate activities. Skills practiced include moving confidently in the water, getting the face wet, submerging, and blowing bubbles underwater. Children also begin learning how to participate in a group and follow simple instructions and pool rules.

Each lesson lasts 30 minutes and takes place in the teaching pool (shallow pool).

After completing the Parent & Child Swimming School, the child may progress, based on the instructor’s recommendation, to either the Beginner Swimming School or Swimming School 1.
